About the Park

Church Marshes Country Park is sited on some 50 hectares of former landfill on the northern edge of Sittingbourne. The site falls within the Swale Estury Site of Special Scientific Interest and is the home to a number of rare species including the Red Carder Bee and Great Crested Newt. Originally a site of brick making the park is bounded by Milton Creek and overlooked by the historic Holy Trinity Church, the third oldest church in Kent from which the park gets it's name.

The site is being transformed in a collaboration between Swale Borough Council, Groundwork and Rural Arisings. The project is a unique example of recycling and enviromentally responsible landscaping with over 350,000 cubic meters of recycled materials being used to cap and transform the site.

The Site is due to be completed at some point in 2011, however the project is staged and stage one will be open in June 2007.

Location

The Park is located in the North East of Sittingboune, sited between the Church Milton Estate on one side and Milton Creek on the other. Once the Park is open the main access will be from Saffron Way near ASDA. Currently the park can be accessed from Green Porch Close, (adjacent to Holy Trinity Church), Miller Close, Yeates Drive and Recreation Way.
